The CBD market is one of the most affluent industries in the world, with it expected to expand to over $2.5 billion by 2022. Naturally, that’s something everyone is looking to get a part of — whether that’s buying or selling CBD. But being a drug it’s important to know the legalities involved. Namely, is it legal to buy CBD online, and is it legal to sell CBD online?
CBD is legal in the United States, so long as it’s infused with Hemp and has a THC (the chemical compound in Cannabis that triggers adverse psychoactive effects) count of less than 0.3%. That’s right — it’s legal to buy CBD online in all 50 states, so long as it doesn’t exceed the THC cap. That covers everything from Capsules, Edibles, and Isolates, to Patches, Topicals, and Vaporizers.
Selling CBD online is a little more complicated, but it’s still completely legal in the United States. You must, however, source the oil from Hemp and ensure the THC content is below 0.3%. You’ll also need to refrain from making unjust medical claims, such as stating that an Oil is capable of curing a disease; while sticking to any additional regulations that are specific to your state.
Can You Sell CBD on Amazon?
Now we’ve established that it’s legal to sell CBD online, we need to start looking at where you can sell it. The most obvious choice would be Amazon, since it’s the largest online marketplace in the world. You’re out of luck, though — the retailer considers CBD a drug and has, as a result, prohibited it from being sold through its website, even if you opt to handle distribution.
Can You Sell CBD on eBay?
So with Amazon off the list, the next best retail platform is eBay. Once again, however, the marketplace has prohibited the sale of CBD, be it either in the form of auctions or permanent listings. In fact, eBay is so strict that it’s been known to disable accounts should someone manage to manipulate its automated approval system and list a CBD product on its website.
Can You Sell CBD on Facebook?
You can sell CBD through Facebook Groups and Marketplace. You can’t, on the other hand, run advertisements for your products through Facebook Ads — so unless you have a large following, or a looking to offload some stock here and there, with no real way to reach the masses, Facebook won’t be your go-to platform for selling CBD — be it Edibles, Oils, or whatnot.
Can You Sell CBD on Shopify?
Shopify doesn’t have a rule against CBD, so you can sell it through its platform, although the process isn’t quite as straightforward as you’d have hoped. That’s because there aren’t a whole lot of payment processors out there that are willing to work with CBD brands. You’ll need to find one, sign up, and be approved, before signing up to Shopify and building your store.
